Founded in 1973 by Richard and Isabella Maina, Risa Farm began as a love story and a quest to give their children a countryside upbringing. Named by blending their initials (RIchard + SAlome), the farm started with 2 cows in Limuru, Kenya. Over 50 years, we’ve weathered setbacks like the 1990s KCC collapse and tribal clashes, emerging stronger with a 110-head pedigree Holstein Friesian herd and a thriving yoghurt brand, Molito Ltd.

Founding Story
Richard and Isabella Maina founded Risa Farm in 1973 with just two cows and a dream to build a sustainable agricultural legacy. Their blend of traditional values and innovative spirit laid the foundation for Kenya's premier pedigree dairy farm.

RISA Farm Timeline
1973
Risa Farm is Started
Founded in Limuru with 2 cows (Jane & Wanja) and sold milk to the Kenya Co-op Creameries (KCC).
1980-1990
Expansion
Herd grew to 120 head & adopted DeLaval milking system (800L/day).
1991-1992
Setbacks
Lost entire milking herd & relaunched with 3 donated cows.
1999
The Revival
Andrew takes over, imports 9 pedigree cows & partners with Brookside Dairies.
2013
100% Holstein Friesians
Transition to 100% Holstein Freshians & herd reaches 110 pedigree cows.
2020s
Value Addition
1,300L/day milk production, Uniform Agri tech adoption & Molito Greek yoghurt line.
